The Ghost of Old Hamlet seeks in the gloom for his son (Young Hamlet), but finds instead the ghost of the blinded Oedipus. The mothers, Gertrude and Jocasta, appear on the scene. Confusion, with hilarity and horror, ensues. The stories are colliding and intertwining, but somehow not quite functioning as they normally should. Something in the settled order of Nature, which gave their stories meaning, has gone awry.
